About
We write about scent
the way it should be worn:
slowly.
BEMVILO is an independent fragrance journal published at bemvilo.com. We exist for people who treat perfume as material, memory, and atmosphere — not merely as a product to be consumed. Our editorial is quiet by design: we prefer long observation to loud headlines, and we believe the most interesting part of a fragrance is rarely the first spray.
Every profile in our collection is built from the same structure — olfactory pyramid, seasonal context, occasion, longevity, and a long-form essay that gives the reader space to form their own opinion. We do not sell fragrance. We do not take advertising from the houses we cover. Our purpose is to help you understand why a composition works, how its materials interact, and where it sits in the wider culture of perfumery.
The journal covers iconic releases from the early twentieth century alongside the most discussed niche fragrances of today. From Guerlain's Shalimar (1925) to Parfums de Marly's Althair (2023), we treat each entry as a complete subject worthy of its own page — its own light, its own pace, its own reading.
What we believe
Good fragrance writing does not tell you what to smell. It gives you a vocabulary for what you are already noticing. That is why our pages include practical guidance — how to apply, how to test on skin, how to read a dry-down — alongside cultural and historical context. We want every visit to leave you more curious, not more certain.
How to use this site
Start with the collection. Each card links to a full editorial page. Read the pyramid first, then the essay. Sample the fragrance on your own skin if you can, and revisit the page after wearing it for a day. The most useful fragrance notes are the ones you write yourself.
